Linda McMahon Statement On Reports Reid And Pelosi Will Finalize Health Care Bill Behind Closed Doors

“The Future Of America’s Health Care Is Too Important To Be Decided In Secret.”

West Hartford, Conn. — Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon today released the following statement in response to published reports that House and Senate conferees will bypass a formal conference committee on healthcare and instead finalize a health care overhaul in secret, behind closed doors:

“I am deeply troubled that Washington politicians are contemplating finalizing behind closed doors a health care bill whose scope will impact the lives of every American and whose size is equal to one-sixth of the U.S. economy. The future of America’s health care is too important to be decided in secret in a process devoid of bipartisanship.

“Congress had an opportunity to reform the nation’s health care system through a process that was fully transparent and in a way that incorporated the best ideas of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. Instead, it produced poorly constructed legislation that relied on accounting gimmicks, backroom deals and political payoffs. This flawed process, predictably, produced a flawed bill that hurts seniors by slashing Medicare, hurts small businesses by imposing tax hikes, hurts families by putting government bureaucrats between patients and doctors, and hurts everyone by raising insurance premiums.

“Washington just doesn’t get it. The American people have lost faith in Washington and career politicians.”
