A Rasmussen poll released this morning shows Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s lead over Republican Linda McMahon at 13 points. The Democrat leads the wrestling mogul 52-39. Blumenthal, who became a candidate in January when incumbent Christopher Dodd abandoned his re-election race.
Blumenthal is down from his high of 60% in Rasmussen match ups. In the latest survey he bests Republican Rob Simmons 55-32. Simmons is down 6% from last month. This is McMahon’s best showing, though Rasmussen points out that no Republican hopeful has yet to crack 40% in its polls of the race. The McMahon trend, however, has on the upswing. The Republican convention to name an endorsed candidate is two weeks from tomorrow. Today’s poll will come as worrisome news for the Simmons camp.
This paragraph from the Rasmussen analysis will cause the Blumenthal campaign the most concern: “McMahon is the only one of the GOP candidates who bests Blumenthal among voters not affiliated with either major party. The Democrat carries those voters in the other match-ups.” Unaffiliated voters are the largest bloc among Connecticut voters.
