Let’s Never Forget!

On this Veterans Day, let us honor our soldiers and say Thank You!
During the last week, it has been a privilege to shake the hands of military personnel from around Connecticut. Each and every one had a story of bravery, patriotism and their love of country.
On Sunday, I attended the Hartford Veterans Day parade led by Grand Marshal Capt. Paul Bucha a Vietnam War Veteran. I also met Adj. General Thaddeus Martin. Some 40,000 people lined the streets of the capital city to wave and show their gratitude. It was a great tribute to the men and women who keep us safe. Their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good is remarkable.
I also recently had the pleasure of meeting the State Commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs Dr. Linda Spoonster Schwartz. She is a retired Air force Flight Nurse, but not retired from her duty to serve the veterans of our state. She is an advocate and activist who devoted her nursing practice to healing the wounds of war and improving the lives of America’s veterans. And she holds the rank of Colonel on the Governor’s Military Staff. Daily she oversees the state’s Veterans Hospitals and homes making sure our military men and women get the care they need.
Veterans like Dr. Schwartz, leave their friends and family behind so they can be on the front lines fighting for Democracy. Our country is blessed to have nearly 24 million men and women who have put their lives on the line defending freedom.
At this time when our country is at War our military needs to know we appreciate them and care about them. Join me and say “thank you.” Take the time to visit war memorials and ask a veteran about his or her story.
Let’s never forget!
