GOP Triumph Election 2009

Congratulations to all the Republicans who won last night! Our candidates scored impressive victories throughout Connecticut.
Mike Pavia had one of the most impressive wins. He is the first Republican Mayor of Stamford elected in more than a decade. I was on the ground with Mike when the results came in, and the energy in the room was palpable. It’s very clear that an enormous amount of intensity exists among Republican voters in Stamford. As the Norwalk Hour reported,
“He (Pavia) triumphed …garnering 56 percent of the votes in a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans almost 2-to-1.”
Mike is a strong leader and cares about his community. For months, Mike was out working hard on the campaign trail. I chipped in making get out the vote calls, along with many other Republicans. It was all hands on deck. And it paid off.
Last night, we joined Mike and his team at the Italian Center on Newfield Avenue to celebrate his win. The place was packed. And the people of Stamford should be proud of their choice for mayor.
Around the state Republicans gained seats. In Greenwich Peter Tesei has shown he has the trust of the people and will continue on as first selectman. His leadership and business saavy is impressive.
In Wethersfield the coucil now has a Republican majority and in Newington the incumbent Republican Mayor persevered again. Torrington’s Mayor has officially been elected to his 3rd term. And on the shoreline, there was an upset in North Branford. GOP leaders are now ready to forge ahead.
It was a night to remember for Republicans, but let’s not lose sight of the work to be done.
Once the confetti is swept away, the task at hand remains….we need to restore trust in Washington, end the out-of-control tax-and-spend policies, and get our economy turned around.
The 2009 mid-term elections were fantastic. Now we look ahead to 2010!
